My Biography
I am currently working towards a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from Lesley University. I hope to complete the program in December of 2011. I received a BA in Anthropology from Connecticut College in 1981.
I have always had a passion for and interest in young children and education, especially children at risk. I decided to return to school after I raised my three children and they left home to pursue higher education. To return to school at my age has been an interesting and challenging journey. However, it has been rewarding, life affirming, and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
I currently volunteer in two public school classrooms. One is an integrated Pre-K program at Muddy Brook Elementary School in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. I have been in that classroom for almost two years. This past fall I started to volunteer one morning a week in a first grade classroom at the Undermountain Elementary School in Sheffield, Massachusetts. I have enjoyed my experiences in both classrooms and both teachers received their Masters from Lesley University as well.
I'm not sure where I see myself at the completion of my program, but I know I want to do something with young children where I will make a positive impact on their future. I realize this can be as a classroom teacher, advocate, or not for profit liaison. We shall see...
